Anna Reading and Diane Chappalley present a joint exhibition of new works created during their 2 months as Artists in Residence at Academy for Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University. The exhibition POND gives a platform to the artists shared interests in transitional spaces, distorted perception and artificial environments.
Reading’s practice comprises sculpture, animation and performance with the works often combined as mixed media installation. For POND Reading imagines a physically animated space through sculptural encounters, mixing handmade fabric organic forms with structural interventions realized in materials sourced from Hong Kong, in which the body’s position in relation to human built landscapes is dissected.
Chappalley’s painting arises from sensory experiences: the synthesis and stimulation of new and past perceptions. Her practice is a constant search in the making; a search guided to reach a sense of known, but one that is not quite possible to pin down. For POND, Chappalley presents a series of landscapes where meaning lies beneath the surface, foregrounding emotion, while perception is disrupted.
In POND two approaches to material and making sit together in a complementary and contrasting dialogue. Emerged in a multi dimensional presentation, space is depicted in layers, reimagining the navigation of landscape.
The exhibition is open from 10am – 9pm on 11 October 2017.
The Opening reception is from 6.30pm – 9pm on 11 October 2017 with an artist sharing session at 7pm.
The exhibition is held at the Gallery, Academy Of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, 51 Kwun Tong Road, Kowloon.
