AVA’s Visiting Artist, Rose Blake, and Angee Chan are going to host two groups of workshop to introduce the skill of printing with Risograph.
Riso is a popular brand of stencil duplicator first manufactured in the 80’s in Japan. They are perfect for high volume printing as get are cost efficient, quick, have a rich print texture, and are really fun to experiment with. The Riso process is not dissimilar to that of silkscreen printing- the artwork is sent to the machine where it is etched onto a master stencil using a thermal print head. The master stencil is then wrapped around an ink filled drum which in turn spins at high speed, transferring the image on to the paper as it is fed through underneath.
Come and explore the possibilities of the Riso machine at this two part workshop, where we will first be experimenting with drawing, and then using the riso machine to expand upon them and make lots of interesting prints.
