It starts a conversation when students juxtapose the photos of today and the past. Will they have any new inspiration when they reexamine their family at present?
Concept / Inspiration:
Connection of images could be about temporality, combination and also narratives. Every image has its own stable meaning. However, if another image is added to it and become a combination, the images would bring different effects to each other. How many other imaginations could be triggered in this process?
This practice could help the students to recall the memory between themselves and their family. The process of reproducing the image is actually the moment for the students to interact with family history. It starts a conversation when students juxtapose the photos of today and the past. Will they have any new inspiration when they reexamine their family at present?
- To let students to practice tracing and copying the same composition, colour, facial expression and body language from photos, etc.
- To allow the students to recall the memory of their family.
Materials / Equipment:
- Family photos
Students find the old photos of their family and imitate them, including the clothing, facial expression, action, etc. They have to find a similar setting to take the photographs and bring both the new and old pictures to school for sharing.
It is advised to supplement the exercise with Leung Yiu Hong’s “Film stills mimic”which allows students to learn how to observe light sources and compositions that enable them to replicate photos.
