Everyone has the ability to create.

Concept / Inspiration:

Everyone has the ability to create.

In photography, some people are good at street photography while some are suitable to do staged photography. Everyone has different ability and interest. Students are encouraged to take photos continuously and randomly record the major or trivial things in life. This enables them to reason and discover what they actually tend to care about.

Goals:

  1. To understand students’ personality and interests.
  2. To allow students understanding what they are looking for from the photos.

Materials / Equipment:

  • Camera

Location:

Anywhere

Workshop Description:

  1. Invite the students to take pictures everyday as in making a diary. To record any moments that could draw their attention in their daily life on a continuous basis.
  2. Invite the students to take pictures everyday as in making a diary. To record any moments that could draw their attention in their daily life on a continuous basis.
  3. The instructor could arrange three to four individual tutorial sessions. In these tutorials, instructor reviews the photos with the students. Meanwhile, students will be asked about the targets and motives for their photo shoot. The role for the instructor is to help the students to know themselves better from their photos as well as the things around them. Instructor aimed to help students to organise their random thoughts and pictures by themselves.
  4. After taking lots and lots of photos, instructor could guide students to find out which of those pictures should be kept in the drawer and which should be shown to the public. Are the photos still meaningful if they are kept private? This could provoke the students to think about the significance of having an exhibition.
  5. Print out all the photos and choose three to ten from them which could arouse curiosity and interest the most and share with others.
  6. Conclude and organise a series of personal work.

Actual Outcome:

Tang Ka Yan took photos of the process showing how her mom crafted the fruit basket. The instructor found that the way she sat on the ground was so familiar. She then realised that her mom was a Thai and the student was of Thai descent as well. Even the teachers from the school did not know about that. Tang rarely mentioned that to anyone at school. This assignment allows everyone to know something special about the student.
